Marki Holdings Limited (the “Company”) is incorporated in 2019, participates in the forestry conservation, especially focus on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+). We cooperate with the local communities, project stakeholders, NGOs, national government and international verifier to ensure the sustainable development of the projects.
The Company is taking actions to turn large-scale commercial logging projects into forest protection programmes. By transforming logging into conservation in the project area, over million tons of CO₂ emissions can be reduced across the 30-50 years project’s lifetime under the REDD+ framework.
The founders are from multi-national companies with over 20 years’ experience in various industries.
“Taking from the society, giving back to the community” is the philosophy behind the Company. Having accumulated wealth and wisdom from the community, the founders recognise that it is time to give back to the community, as well as making a positive impact to the world where we live in. Therefore, the family set up the Company in 2019, with an objective to support Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction activities and Forest Conservation. The Company aims at building a sustainable environment, providing better quality of life, education and working opportunities to the community.
Impacts of Climate Change are more felt and recognised in the recent decades. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP) set the framework to help guide activities to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+).
The preservation of forests is essential to not only meeting emission reduction targets and preserving biodiversity, but it also enhances the well-being and prosperity of the local people. Our works will generate revenue for the local communities, with which they can enjoy better infrastructure, housing, electricity, clear water, education and training, health care and clinics. Our projects encourage members of the community to participate actively in different socio-economic development activities. Through involving the local communities, we create jobs and therefore wealth for the local inhabitants to improve their quality of life. We also provide assistance for businesses, loans and support, financial literacy training, future generation funds, and many more.
With global insight, the Company is in a unique position to fight against unsustainable timber harvesting and to become a key conservation leader in Papua New Guinea. We are confident that through exchanging local wisdoms and our entrepreneurial experience, we can make positive contributions to the environment, the society and the economy.
